The Prepared Environment
Discover the essence of Montessori education through our carefully curated prepared environment. At Freehouse Montessori School, we believe in creating spaces that nurture independence, creativity, and a love for learning in every child.

What is a Prepared Environment?
The Montessori prepared environment is designed to foster a child's natural curiosity and exploration. It is a space where children can freely choose from a variety of hands-on materials that promote independent learning and self-discovery. Teachers prepare the environment and the materials therein to support students' individual interests and learning styles. The teacher then becomes more of a facilitator, overseeing each child's growth and learning in the prepared environment.

Key Elements of a Prepared Environment
Our classrooms are equipped with age-appropriate materials that engage children's senses and intellect. Each area is carefully organized to encourage order, concentration, and purposeful activity using low, open shelving which allows children height appropriate access to materials of their choice. Natural light, plants, and inviting spaces create a calm and peaceful atmosphere for learning. Children may choose to work on tables or on mats on the floor, thus allowing freedom of choice in self-directed learning.

Benefits of a Prepared Environment
By providing a prepared environment, we empower children to take ownership of their learning journey. Through self-directed exploration and meaningful work, children develop essential life skills, build confidence, and cultivate a lifelong love for learning. The prepared environment ultimately becomes the silent teacher.
